As you begin your journey at one of the largest universities in the country, you’ll find that Penn State will present you with thousands of doors to open. To me, the most crucial first opportunities are the ones that guide the rest of your college experience, and are the constant source of love and support throughout your four years here.

When I was a freshman, I was overwhelmed by my uncertainty with my major and my friends. I walked through involvement fairs and campus looking for my “home-away-from-home.” Out of curiosity and obligation, I decided to sign up for recruitment. Little did I know, I would meet my big and future roommate, my mentors, my teammates and my role models when I walked through the doors of Alpha Xi Delta. While my relationships, major and activities have changed immensely since I began college, Alpha Xi Delta has remained the same: a wonderful organization where I feel comfortable to be every version of myself that exists.

One of the best things about Alpha Xi Delta is that each member is a leader in her own way. As a freshman I had almost 200 experts to lead me through the chaotic first few months of college. In our chapter, we have staff members from Onward State and The Daily Collegian, student managers at ResCom, three homecoming captains, a THON captain, and Penn State’s Undergraduate Student Body President. I believe that anyone can find someone to connect with among our many diverse and talented individuals.

Despite our sisters’ busy schedules, I’m continually amazed by the passion and dedication that our sisters put toward our chapter. To name a few of our achievements in the 2014-2015 school year, we raised over $10,000 for our national philanthropy, Autism Speaks, over $100,000 for Penn State’s Dance Marathon and placed first in Penn State’s Greek Sing competition with our performance of Shrek The Musical.

Alpha Xi Delta didn’t just open the door to an amazing experience within the Greek community; it impacted my Penn State experience as a leader, student and individual. If you join our organization, I am confident it will have the same effect on you.
